Stranded III is the third part of the survival game franchise “Stranded” by Unreal Software.

The game is currently in a very early development stage. This website is used to blog about the latest progress and to keep you informed.

Game Facts:

  • Stranded III will have a multiplayer mode
  • It will have a story mode and random islands like Stranded II
  • I’m aiming for a style and gameplay which is a bit more realistic than Stranded II but this doesn’t exclude funny elements

Engine, Technique, Requirements:

  • Stranded III will use Unity 3D (v. 4 or higher) as game engine
  • You will be able to mod nearly everything (even more modding opportunities and freedom than you had in Stranded II)
  • The scripting language is Lua combined with my own basic definition language
  • The requirements are uncertain. Unity3D itself runs with most video cards though. You’ll be able to change settings to make it work with non-high-end PCs.

Release, Platforms, Price:

  • There is NO FIXED RELEASE DATE! Please don’t ask for it. I don’t know it and can’t estimate it!
  • Stranded III will be released for PC and Windows first, but MacOS and Linux versions are possible (a Linux dedicated server is planned)
  • Mobile and console versions are NOT planned
  • I will probably try Steam Greenlight for the release
  • The game will either be completely free or available for a low and affordable price

Take a look at www.unrealsoftware.de if you want to learn more about the predecessors of Stranded III!

I can’t wait too see myself playing Stranded 3 together with my friends a whole night or more. I’m sure this game is going to be great.
I don’t know why, but I am close to saying that Stranded 3 MAY follow the paths of Minecraft or DayZ. (Not the game itself but the community size/popularity)

As I assume you want to work out most of your own Ideas first, I wont start throwing mine at you now or here. I just want you to know i got some wich are, in my opinion, not bad. If you want to know some of them just write a mail to me, if you don’t, don’t. :D

Whatever you do, I am going to look forward into the era of Stranded coming back!

    Greetz, Toriath.

Ps: If you ever need some interested alpha/beta/whatever-testers I would be glad to help you improving/bugfixing your games!

Ps2: Spelling mistakes are free4all. English isn’t my native language. (Why did I even write this in english? As far as I know you speak german :D )

Thank you. Feel free to post/mail your ideas/comments at any time! I’ll read them for sure but please don’t expect me to comment them. Many ideas are repeated frequently and it’s quite annoying to be forced to post the same comments on the same ideas all the time. I’m always grateful for good ideas nevertheless!

    Hi,

    Some ideas you might consider:

    1) You mentioned in one of the posts that you wanted to make digging/mining smooth and that the level of ground will drop/raise accordingly so i was thinking that maybe at a certain depth the digging functionality should change a bit to maybe allow some sort of limited mining not at all like Minecraft just a short depth or more importantly the point i am trying to make is for Multiplayer and even in story mode you might want to get past a mountain or village ect and the option of digging underneath it will be quite cool and you can always throw in a few minerals or roots or animals that may appear in the tunnel.

To add to this idea maybe create some sort of building to allow the digging like one of the S2 templates where you pick a spot and gather the required materials then when done you can enter the building like with stairs or a ladder ect this way you can control the amount of tunnels much more so that only people with a specific architectural goal will go through the trouble of getting their site built. alternatively add one or 2 sites on the map where you can dig/mine for rare minerals but not deep my idea is not to make it like minecraft but to add some sort of underground living/shelter/tunnel ect.

2)Some new types of structures like being able to construct a bridge over a cliff from one side to the other or a zip line like you see in stranded like movies, different classes but in the sense that what you do in the game lets you make choices for eg. if i hunt the enough i can chose to be a hunter and this will allow a path to enable certain unique items for me to craft but a builder or farmer will not be able to craft them unless they achieve certain goals in that class.

    3) Alot more types of buildings like from the basic S2 shelter to a castle and everything in between like a hut / house / 2 story building / wooden fence / generator to power some basic lighting or electric fencing / furnaces / towers

    4) let the survivor face more dangers like alligators / eagle’s / hostile tribes / comodo dragon that can poison you

I can keep on going I have a lot more ideas unfortunately I am out of time I need to get going before traffic starts up so I will have a look tomorrow and maybe post some more of the ideas that I have i am just getting started and take the ones you like into consideration and ignore the rest i just want this game to be as successful as possible.

    Kind Regards

    Stanley Faul

Hello,I am Supportive A. Here and i wish you the greatest luck in the world!I also have a few suggestions!
1)You talk of attributes but tell me,what if you had Character attributes? I mean small things like endurance(can go a little longer without food, water, sleep)Strength(Damage increase(Melee) and Intelligence(Proficiently gain skills and some sort of xp(Unless you want the attributes to go up by use))
    2) I mention skills ones like stranded II had but more skills the merrier!Things like Architecture could allow more blueprints for building and maybe taming? I would very much love a army of monkeys!(Perhaps you could set areas to gather?)
    3) I more, lets say, common trading system with locales i mean don’t get me wrong i just love trading hemp….but you have gold rocks and coin!

    Just Suggestions!
    Thanks,

      1) Not sure how many and which attributes exactly characters will have but the attribute system works for characters as well. They surely will have characters. No doubt.
      2) I guess there will be skills as well but I didn’t plan this exactly yet.
      3) Trading is crucial especially because there will be a multiplayer mode. So you can be sure that there will be a cool trading function for trading with NPCs and for trading with other players.

        that is a question i would like to ask is trading with players going to be organized or will it be just drop it on the ground and other player drop it? because, if so some problems will happen;
        1) what if the other player doesn’t drop the trading item? then he/she will get a benefit and the other player will get nothing while he/she will run away with the item. (trust me, there are trolls like that!)
        2) what if the other player decides to kill he/she in the process, taking everything for himself? pls consider this because i don’t want any bullies/trolls/haters etc. in this game happy developing! :D

Yeah, I’m sure I’ll add a trading screen later where both sides can place items for trading and both have to accept before the actual trade is performed. And you won’t be able to do anything else while that trading screen is opened.

    I can’t believe Stranded 3 is in development! :)
    It already sounds awesome.

Also I had a little issue with Stranded 2 in that if you build a house (or a hammock) and you sleep in it you don’t get any improvement in the rest stat. I would assume that in real life you would feel more comfortable sleeping in a house or hummock rather than outside where animals could eat you and therefore feel less tired. Anyways its still great that you are making a new version of this great game!

I was wondering if you do this in your free time or how you are financing this project. Ever thought about doing an Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign to get some funds from the fans? I bet a lot of us guys would like the possibility to support you in your effort and show our gratitude towards you. Think about it.

Thank you again for creating this wonderfull thing and good luck with future projects.

Hello everyone, especially you, Peter, because I’ve got some questions to you
    connected with the game.
    1. Resources extraction. Will it looks like in Stranded 2? This mean that e.g. to get a branch from tree you need to hit it with a tool. Or are you planning to introduce a new system?
2.RPG system. Is it going to be based on xp points (unrealistic for me), or just only on performing some activitity (practice makes perfect)? I’m asking about this, because character development should be very important part in this kind of survival game (enviroment development should be connect with character evolution)?
    3. Spawning units. Will it looks like in Stranded 2 or like in real life (for animals – propagation – gender breakdown, for natives arrival on the island e.g. by boat)?

I’m very excited, when I’m reading news from game development and I’m impressed by looking at the work you ‘re doing. I hope that you will ask my questions. I can’t wait for full version. It is presaged that your game will beat the system!

    p.s. Sorry for my english.

      1. Yes, it will be much like Stranded 2. However the tool you are using will have more impact on what you get and how fast/efficiently you get it.
      2. Skills will increase by doing. You will not be able to improve a skill that you never used at all. So you don’t have classic XP points that can be assigned to skills but skills are improved automatically by doing. However I’m planning to add perks / skill trees. So for each skill you can select between different special improvements while getting better. This is only a plan though.
      3. I can’t answer this question because I didn’t plan this part yet. I would like to do it like in real life but this leads to many problems and may not be worth the effort at all.

Skill tree will be awesome! I would like to see that in this way. Each main skill (fishing, minning, etc.) will have a skill tree. Each execution of activity will give you 1 point, which you can spent on some perk in skill tree (of course more advanced perk = more points). I would like to choose one path of development (in skill tree) not block the second one. What do you think?

          January 29, 2014

That’s how it’s planned to be. However you will have to make decisions. In some cases choosing one perk will probably block another one (or maybe even an entire little perk-path). This increases the replayability value because people want to try all perks.

            January 29, 2014

I came up with yet another idea connected with this. Blocking some perks may really increase the replayability, but decrease satisfaction from one long game. You can meet half way by introducing something like this: all perks will be theoretically availabe, but choosing e.g. first perk from first path will e.g double amount of points required to get the first perk from the second path and so on.
That means that achieving “the legendary” level on one path holdng only it will be relatively simple but gaining mastery on 2 paths will be possible, but very, very hard to achieve. Example method (if you’re interested of course):
            https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-Vzh6AbSbHfZk1MMW81Y2JmZGc/edit

And the second idea, which will help in achieving “true mastery” (all perks gained) in any skill. Legendary challenges, which achieving will get you bonus points.

I realize that execution of these ideas require alot of ingenuity, but introducing it will cause, that dream will come true (for me).

          • Peter
            January 31, 2014

I actually think that this (double the points to unlock both perk-paths) is a great idea. I’ll consider to do it that way.
Also I think that you added the wrong link here?

I think I know a cool way for getting perks and leveling up and that is by making quests for every perk, for example if you want to get a tree cutting perk you have to cut down 10 trees in one day, or if you want the mining perk you have to get 5 iron ores in one day

also I hope the game story mode have different endings, a good story and have lots of quests and side quests

I thought about achievements, but using in other way. Legendary challenges, as I mentioned may help you gain mastery through giving extra points. I think it will be easier to introduce and it will require player’s effort. There are only my suggestions, I hope Peter will like it.

    1. Will it be harder to get water than in Stranded 2′s story mode?
    2. And will there be a greater necessity for building structures? Because I absolutely loved Stranded 2, but it was easy (except for the fright I got when a claw monkey/lion/raptor caught me unawares!).
Thank you so much for making a third game, I bet it’s going to be awesome! Also, if there’s going to be a tribe as a part of the story mode,
    3. will you make (or hire someone to make) a legitimate language for them, even if it lacks a bunch of words? Or perhaps will you use a natural language?

    I love this game!

    IDEAS:
    1. I would like to see a more spread out world like a chain of large – small islands as opposed to just 1 island and everything in it is a free for all.

    2. Potentially different tribes at war seperated between the islands and the survivor once developed in weapons and or skills could involve his or herself in diplomacy or war with these tribes by having a reputation based system similiar to rpgs?

    3. You could have a quest line for these tribes where the player chooses who to side with. Or where the player secretly plots to destroy both and take over the entire island chain.

    4. You could have rewards specific to each tribe like one tribe quest reward gives the player a blueprint to build a clay hut. Where as the other tribe offers a blueprint to build a TP. Also weapon blueprints pertaining to each tribe could differ.

    5. Foods and specific materials could be seperated between islands. Forcing the player to achieve certain goals like a boat capable of traveling between the islands, before recieving content that would be required to construct advanced recipes.

    6. To prevent access to certain islands you could require certain water vehicles to be obtained aka. Canoo > Raft > Boat. The canoo could make it to another island but the one after that requires something more safer do to preditors aka sharks or pirana. The island after could have preditors and extremely choppy waters requiring a boat.

    7. Some of the islands could require certain types of protective equipment to be constructed in order to progress further – mountains and or cliffs requiring safety harness’s and rock climbing gear with specific attachments to lock into different rock faces.

    8. Caves could require the players open up ventalation holes in order to progress deeper into the cave to support breathing or to detonate explosives to open up passage ways.

    9. Fishing tools could be more specific requiring certain areas to be acessessed to catch certain types along with different lures/poles/tools in order to catch and or hook the fish out of the water. With different breeds being attracted to specific lures.

    10. You could implement a trophy system on the website where players that hunt or fish have their catchs weight or size or breed synced to the website or a online menu within the game to make a competitive enviroment players can engage in. Posting up the biggest catch of the week or month and potentially offering rewards.

    11. Also there could be events that occur ingame like over breeding of a specific type of preditor or tribe that the player engages in to maintain controls of specific areas he/she needs for materials, food, etc.

    12. There could be a natural balance to animal population and during times of over breeding of a specific species of animal or tribe another species of animal or tribe is effected by it. Hence reducing and or increasing materials or food types offered by the species of animals or tribes that are involved in the event of over breeding.

    13. Seasons can change the types of hardships the survivor faces and or ways the player has to go about surviving. Including changes in the types of animals or plantlife that is available.

Just throwing ideas out there to help in the creation that will continue a genre and series that has given me enjoyment for nearly 1/3 of my life. Ty again Peter and anyone else involved. If i can donate anything help in the production and or show my gratitude for the years of gaming joy you have given me just email me.

    14. Since multiplayer will def be a factor you could make pvp aswell or war. Where players with boats could travel and engage in theftbor war against other online players.

    15. Also certain areas could be unaccessable unless the player has another person to assist him/her with getting thru the area ex. Player requires a second person to help acrpss a cliff face or preditor infested areas.

    16. Instead of choosing what type of enviroment the player faces you could make it specific to regions around the globe. Literally putting a 3d realistic earth infront of the player and having them select the country/region they would like to try and survive in. This would also be supportive of locations that online players will be able to interact or run into each other in.

    16. Also would like to see more diverse and realistic types of animals/plant life/tribes that exist in the make up of the regions players are located. That would make each region a completly different scenerio as for surviving skills required.

    18. Lighting n specific areas like caves could require the player to build specific blueprints in order to make visibility and passage thru the cave possible and safer.

    19. More realistic branch/stick gathering methods in the begining of the game as opposed to hitting a tree with your bare hands. Climbing trees and actually looking for broken or dead limbs to easly break off. Searching the forest floor like in stranded 2.

    20. A more diverse bug life. Grubs, crickets, spiders, scorpions, beetles, centipeeds, etc.

    21. The ability to capture young bears, lions, cheetas, etc and train them as a pet to help with hunting and other things.

    22. Capturing certain bugntypes and caging them, capturing posionous animals and caging them, feeding those posonous animals, extracting venom from them, and developing antivenom.

    23. Extracting the skins of certain animals and constructing clothing that can be used to combat certain tempatures or hoatile animal attacks.

Stranded was my first survival game! Never played II, didn´t even know there is a second part, omg!

I love Survival-Games, if some would be out there, but there are just “Horror”-Survival-Games. I´m full of Zombies, Mutants, radiated Rednecks or whatever, i just wanna survive like I´m alone out in the wilderness. All these games think, that there is a need to kill an enemy. A fantasy enemy, never saw Zombies, Mutants or something else while being in the boondocks.

For me, the environment should be your enemy, inna Robinson Crusoe Style, wild animals, weather, food, water, sickness, all that! No need for munsters!

Because Stranded is the mother of all survival-games(for me), i can´t wait to the release of part three(will check part two now!), go, go, go….

It would be cool to have multiple islands in story mode and random mode in which certain items can only be found on specific islands, making extensive exploration not only fun but also a necessity. Stranded is the only game out there that I am 100% certain to persue. I would gladly pay an amount comparable to the cost of console games. PS. Stranded: The Lost World. That would be cool. There’s already raptors.
